Jan Irwin, CEO/President has named Sheila Smith, PTA, the 2016 Key Rehab Employee of the Year. Learn more about Sheila as she answered the following questions:
Which school(s) did you attend? Northeast Community College in Norfolk NE.
Tell us about your career path: I graduated in 2008 with my first job out of college being the hospital in Grand Island NE. I worked there for 2 years and then decided to travel. I traveled mostly in the Midwest states - Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Florida. I traveled for approximately 6 years out of my whole career before I moved to NE and took on a full time position with Key Rehab.
What led you to Key Rehab? I met Shayla (VP - Operations Iowa and South Dakota) in 2008, I believe, and started with Key Rehab as a PRN PTA in Grand Island NE. I always stayed in contact with Shayla and have always been willing to travel. Even on my traveling assignments, I was able to work prn for Key wherever a building in my area may have needed me.
Tell us about your family: I am very close with a brother and sister-in-law who live in Grand Island and am the proud aunt of five nieces and nephews. They range in age from 2 up through a high school graduate. My oldest nephew will be continuing on at New Mexico State as a preferred Division I football walk-on! Pretty exciting stuff! My parents and grandparents are also in Nebraska, so making the move back to this state has been beneficial for sure.
What do you like to do in your spare time? I work two jobs, so typically (if I'm not working) I am trying to get a workout in. I found a love for kick box training in MMA gyms with some pretty awesome athletes. I have created a bond with my dad for running. We try to run a race or 2 at least every summer. At any given invite, I would drop what I'm doing for a lake day and possibly a day on the golf course!
What do you like most about working for Key? Key Rehab is a fantastic company with so much close support from staff. Corporate staff and the leaders of the company show great understanding at all levels of the company. They are, by far, fair with their expectations and understanding of extenuating circumstances. They offer a lot of education, along with access to highly educated leaders who answer with prompt replies (which is something that isnt' easy to come by with other corporations).
Congratulations, Sheila, on your well deserved honor of being awarded the 2016 Golden Key Employee of the Year! This award is well-deserved. Thank you for sharing your story.
